UKIFS’s pay arrangements and grading structure are currently under review as part of a transformation project and proposed multi-year pay deal. UKIFS aims to introduce a new grading structure in 2024. This will enable us to lead the delivery of sustainable fusion energy and maximise the scientific and economic benefit. The Role

STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) is the UK’s flagship national programme to deliver a prototype fusion energy plant, targeting 2040, and a path to commercial viability of fusion.  STEP is deliberately bold and ambitious and seeks people who want to be part of a world-changing endeavour and who have credible and relevant experiencing in delivery.

Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy as Benefits and Impact Specialist in in the field of fusion energy. In this role you will play a pivotal role in development of a robust evidence-base to demonstrate the value of STEP and impact on the nation and furthering the goals of the UK fusion strategy. You will help to evidence and communicate the impact of the programme and lead activities to promote benefit identification and management, to help bring clarity to the unique elements of the programme and what impact they are likely to deliver.

This opportunity will involve engaging with all aspects of the STEP programme as well as supporting the programme’s interface with the Government’s assurance and approval processes for project funding and delivery.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Designing, delivering, and managing both in-house and commissioned research projects.
  • Produce research reports and briefings which communicate evidence in a user-friendly way.
  • Undertaking qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research, from the development of research materials and surveys, data and evaluation.
  • Conduct and commission in-depth research, monitoring, and evaluation, to build the evidence base to support STEP in meeting our strategic priorities.
  • Responding to ad hoc request for evidence relating to policy, key thematic areas, for example the UK Government Spending Review.
