Our research spans a wide range of disciplines and facilities.
- We manage the Joint European Torus (JET), which was the focal point of the European fusion research programme, and the UK’s national fusion experiment, MAST Upgrade.
- We have leading facilities in robotics, materials research, fusion technology and fuel research.
- UKAEA manages the STEP research programme, the UK’s plan to build a prototype fusion power plant.

Exciting projects with renowned organisations
Come to work to change the world! At UKAEA, our staff work on interesting and challenging projects with a real impact on bringing fusion energy to the grid.
Fusion energy is a global quest and, as one of the leading players, UKAEA has partnerships with organisations around the world. For example, we are at the heart of the UK’s involvement in the ITER international megaproject, the first ever industrial-scale demonstration of fusion power – fast taking shape in southern France.
I’m looking forward to learning more and being able to implement the knowledge as I go along.
