Executive Support Officer
Overview of Responsibilities
UKAEA’s Executive Office supports the CEO, C-Suite and Executive Directors by providing policy, strategy and technical advice across a wide range of organisational priorities. It ensures the effective operation of the Authority’s governance and assurance framework, supporting boards, committees and reviews, and plays a key role in managing strategic stakeholder relationships internally and externally.
The Executive Officer leads governance initiatives and provides high-quality secretariat support, corporate documentation and strategic reporting to enable effective decision-making. The role also drives governance improvement, supports senior leadership portfolios, and manages key strategic activities including corporate planning and government-facing work.

Core responsibilities
- Lead and deliver Executive secretariat functions, ensuring effective governance and high-quality decision-making.
- Coordinate, draft and quality-assure committee and board papers, executive briefings, strategy and policy documents, business cases and key corporate reporting.
- Oversee the maintenance and integrity of core governance frameworks and documentation, including corporate agreements, intranet pages and internal communications and committee terms of reference.
- Lead governance and organisational improvement initiatives, driving process transformation and operational effectiveness.
- Play a key role in the planning and delivery of the Annual Strategic Business Plan and Annual Report and Accounts.
- Deliver strategic and policy projects on behalf of the Executive Office, including government consultation responses and cross-organisational initiatives.
- Provide strategic support across the CEO, CFO, COO and CDO portfolios to enable effective directorate decision-making.
- Support UKAEA’s corporate relationship with Government, including sponsorship and appointment matters.
Qualifications
- Demonstrable experience in project management and/or governance within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Proven track record of delivering multiple parallel workstreams to tight deadlines within high-pressure settings.
- Proven experience of problem-solving and creative thinking skills.
- Experience drafting and producing strategy, policy, management and business documentation.
- Strong analytical and numeracy skills, with the ability to assess complex information and inform decision-making.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills; ability to influence and challenge at senior levels.
- Sound understanding of organisational governance structures and delivery frameworks within a complex organisation.
