Process Engineer (3 Year FTA)

Overview of Responsibilities

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking to appoint a Process Engineer within the Central Engineering Department. You will be joining a talented team within the Product Engineering Design Group, in which you will have a key role in supporting the design of fusion plant power generating systems. In particular, you will use your knowledge and skills to strategically influence the design of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) Fuel Cycle, which includes such sub-systems as the reactor vacuum chain.

This role is for a 3 year FTA and is available at either level 3 or 4, your level will be assessed at interview.

The required experience and the type of work for each level is outlined below:

As the Level 3 Process Engineer you will be involved in a variety of process engineering tasks to meet challenging requirements and perform engineering calculations to support design decisions. You will support aspects of system/component repair, replacement or upgrade activities, produce technical reports and ensure adherence to design standards.

At level 4 you will create innovative process design solutions on major fusion sub-systems, from concept through to detailed design. You will need to be experienced in performing engineering calculations to support design decisions with emphasis on Fuel Cycle systems. You may lead some work packages for system/component repair, replacement or upgrade activities. You will also produce technical reports and ensure adherence to design standards.

General Purpose of the Role:

  • Developing process plant designs to support a prototype fusion power plant
  • Undertaking design calculations from first principles
  • Undertake technology assessments to inform process plant design
  • Work with multidisciplinary stakeholders to come to solutions which satisfy system requirements
  • Support the development of process engineering processes and practices within UKAEA

Additional Information:

This role is involving Tritium research, Nuclear Materials or Radiological Materials.

Please note the Level 3 offers a salary of £29,799 - £31,661 (inclusive of MPP) and the Level 4 offers a salary of £36,397 – £38,620 (inclusive of MPP).
