Policy and Employee Relations Manager

Overview of Responsibilities

Who are we looking for?

As a  Policy and Employee Relations Manager you will have responsibility for the UKAEA Employment Policy Framework, and all People related policy matters.  You will also lead on engagement with the recognised Trades Union at both a local and national level and, as such, will need to build and maintain constructive working relationships.

This role will allow you to provide subject matter expertise to the People Strategy Team and wider People Department on all People policy and employee relations matters. You will ensure that all People policies are effectively communicated and embedded, and are inclusive and accessible to all employees.

If you are a confident negotiator, influential when engaging and communicating with others and process driven and you have knowledge of employee relations and trade union experience, then we would like to hear from you.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Undertake a review of current policies, and define, implement and manage a plan to update them, create new ones and archive obsolete ones, which will then form the UKAEA People Policy Framework to be maintained and updated moving forward.
  • Ensure policy changes take place in the context of the wider employment framework.
  • Establish and follow a rolling timetable for the review and refresh of all People policies so that they meet legislative requirements, they reflect HR best practice, they are streamlined and user-friendly, and they underpin the strategic needs of the organisation.
  • Lead and support the ongoing engagement with Trades Union colleagues, including all negotiations and consultations, developing excellent relationships at a local and national level, and working to achieve consensus at all times to the benefit of the organisation and its people.
  • Where possible and practical, ensure all new People policies are non-contractual, and lead on an exercise to remove, where appropriate, all existing policies from the Conditions of Employment Manual, which forms part of contractual terms and conditions of employment.
  • At all times work in a highly collaborative fashion with colleagues in the People Department, including policy owners and stakeholders, and more broadly, in the work to review, refresh and produce new policies, so the approach is an holistic one, incorporating input from all People specialisms and a wide range of views.
  • Ensure that the Strategic People Business Partners and People Advisors are appropriately equipped with guidance material to effectively support employees and line managers with the interpretation and application of policies.
