Overview of Responsibilities

Who are we looking for?

As the Lead Electrical HV Distribution Engineer you will provide technical and project leadership on projects of large significance or scale, influencing the direction of the organisation and/or external collaborators. You will provide specialist technical knowledge and direction in a complex field. This role will be extremely important in helping to shape the future of UKAEA at Culham and define the work we do on site post JET.

We are looking for an experienced degree qualified (or equivalent) electrical engineer with excellent interpersonal and analytical skills. If this is you, and you are good at decision making with the skills and ability to communicate and influence others, then we would be very keen to hear from you.

This role could be appointment either of 2 levels. Additional requirements for the lower of the two levels are marked as LEVEL 5, for the higher, LEVEL 6.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Leading Electrical Engineer (HV Systems):
  • Proposing, defining, managing and delivering major projects or contracts (up to £10M) and lead project teams on enhancement programmes for site-wide facilities and future fusion devices.
  • Developing and implementing organisational [Level 6] as well as technical improvements (LEVEL5)
  • Be appointed as Senior Authorised Person (Electrical) for HV systems [Level 6] or Authorised Person (Electrical) [Level 5] 
  • Accountable as the Plant Responsible Officer [Level 5]
  • Assume a position of technical expertise (and lead in setting the direction of site level projects in this capacity [Level 6]), acting as an authority and advisor for design solutions and/or critical plant operational issues.

Please note that this role may involve working with and influencing external collaborators such as European or international laboratories, universities, strategic customers or suppliers and professional networks.

The Level 5 offers a salary of £49,396 – £52,293 (inclusive of MPP) and the Level 6 offers a salary of £60,317 – £63,855 (inclusive of MPP). Your level will be assessed as part of the interview process.
