Innovation Group Leader H3AT
Overview of Responsibilities
The Hydrogen 3 Advanced Technologies Division (H3AT) is leading the delivery of tritium life cycle solutions for sustainable fusion energy, aiming to maximise the scientific and economic benefits as a result. In addition to delivering high-impact research and development programmes, H3AT is also responsible for designing, delivering, and operating cutting-edge tritium life cycle facilities. Furthermore, H3AT seeks to develop productive collaborations and grow a community of experts through the sharing and assimilating of knowledge.
The Innovation groups within H3AT are research and development teams that pursue tritium life cycle development. The focus of the team is on delivering research which supports the realisation of a commercially viable tritium life cycle.
The Group Leader provides leadership and strategy, as well as research and development, and project sponsorship leading to proficiency in tritium, waste, and/or fusion fuel cycles. This will involve engaging with internal stakeholders, academia, and national and international industries.
- Ensuring that the safety, health, and welfare of staff are maintained and adhered to in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Actively promote UKAEA’s values, championing a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Developing and implement an effective strategy to grow an innovation team that meets current and future programme and collaboration needs.
- Ensuring suitably qualified and experienced staff are in place to meet both current and future organisational needs as per UKAEA standards, ensuring management systems and relevant regulations are appropriate and adhered to.
- Effectively and timely management of staff, including, but not limited to: setting resource allocation and recruitment requirements, knowledge transfer, welfare, setting measurable objectives and performance management, absence management, professional development, and coaching.
- Providing support to and/or deliver high-value projects by providing technical and programmatical leadership.
- Identifying opportunities for innovation and lead in obtaining funding and collaborations.
- Where appropriate, explore opportunities for commercial applications of fusion fuel cycle solutions in anticipation of future industry requirements.
- Representing and promoting H3AT’s innovative offerings and technical specialisms both internally and externally at high-profile events.
- Working in accordance with UKAEA policy and undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties requested by your manager.
Qualifications
Essential
- Degree or equivalent level in relevant STEM subject with demonstratable engineering experience
- Experience of working on major projects as a technical lead.
- Experience line managing and coaching technical individuals.
- Experience in building and leading large technical teams.
- Mentoring engineers and scientists.
- Demonstratable experience of strategy and planning.
Desired
- Chartered status with a professional body (or equivalent demonstrable endorsement from peers).
- Demonstrated expertise in relevant technology or research field.
- Commercial awareness and evidence of delivering innovative solutions.
