The salary for this role is £79,638. Onsite working is expected for 3 days a week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.  

Employees of UKIFS can be based at either of our sites; West Burton, Nottinghamshire or Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), and be eligible for SC Clearance (must have resided in the UK for the last 5 years), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

The Role  

The Head of Financial Strategy role will play a critical role in shaping the financial landscape of the company, ensuring the company achieves its business objectives by providing advice and guidance and financial strategy.

As Head of Financial Strategy, you will be responsible for creating and leading UKIFS Financial Planning and Analysis capability, working across the company and its Partners to deliver strategic insights and decision support tools to senior decision makers. You will be responsible for establishing and leading the creation of the company’s medium and long-term financial plan, ensuring that it has the resources to achieve UKIFS strategic objectives and deliver the STEP programme.

You will support the Finance Director in the financial transformation to a registered company that leads a complex major programme with large delivery partners from industry. Whilst this is an exciting challenge, you will need to be comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity as we build UKIFS Ltd. and its team. You will be helping to lead the establishment of a major programme and limited company at its foundation stage. This will provide you with an opportunity to set strategies and design and embed new procedures and processes.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead on setting the strategic direction, intent and shape of the UKIFS financial strategy and priorities for the company.
  • Prepare and present advice to the CEO, Board and Executive Committee on how the UKIFS strategy can be translated into financial requirements, and provide robust advice on complex financial decisions and issues in a changing environment and a transforming organisation.
  • Ensure finance is at the heart of all key decision making through oversight, support and challenge
  • Work closely with the programme costing and the programme finance team to develop and manage UKIFSs medium and long-term financial planning model, including 3-year and 10-year rolling forecasts.
  • Develop risk strategies to manage medium and long-term financial risk
  • Monitor and analyse the company’s financial performance, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing changes to improve results.
  • Leverage new technologies and innovative approaches to improve financial processes, reporting and decision-making
  • Develop and use a deep understanding of the wider strategic, political and economic climate to ensure that UKIFS financial plans adapt to strategic threats and maximises strategic opportunities
  • Provide financial analysis and strategic insights which support the evaluation of strategic investment options and prioritisation in the company
  • Lead on cost optimisation, driving efficiency on corporate and operational processes without compromising quality or growth potential, and to ensure financial sustainability within the organisation.
  • Establish strong relationships with senior stakeholders both internally and externally, in particular with other finance, commercial and programme colleagues in UKIFS, UKAEA Group finance, Whole Plant Partners, and senior UKIFS staff, as well as colleagues in wider government
  • Build and lead a Financial Planning capability in UKIFS through hiring, coaching and development, providing leadership, guidance, mentorship and support
