Overview of Responsibilities
Who are we looking for?
UKAEA is looking for a Category Manager to join our team! You will be responsible for the production, approval and delivery of the Category Strategy for the designated portfolio of spend (ca. £10 – 50Mpa). You will work across all levels of the organization, independently or as part of a project team, department, developing & delivering complex sourcing and tender projects. Initial category management areas which are required are FM and Professional Services. Strategic supplier relationship management and market intelligence form a core part of the role, ensuring that both individual Tender Strategies and Category Strategies manage risk, are aligned to market trends and the future direction of the business whilst ensuring UKAEA are compliant with the UK directives for procurement in the public sector.
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the organization in achievement of its milestones and also impacting the achievement of BEIS targets and milestones. You will work closely with Strategic Procurement Business Partners to capture all needs and requirements, collaborating with others to define scopes, seek opportunities for improvement and manage areas and projects as assigned. You will drive, influence and negotiate with both internal and external stakeholders.

What will you be responsible for?
- Establishing strategic relationships with Management Teams and key suppliers and proactively manage engagement across projects/programs and incorporating all Business Partners
- Developing and managing Assistant Category Managers and providing advice, training, and support to the business to drive compliance and enhance commercial awareness
- Undertake in-depth market analysis to inform both Category and Procurement Strategies
- Exploit the ERP and Microsoft platforms and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Conduct financial analysis and lead on complex commercial negotiations -Develop and deliver procurement projects that provide financial benefit, risk mitigation, and process efficiency
- Challenge ‘business as usual’ and prepare cases for the more effective use of existing and new supply chains
- Prepare and seek approval of procurement and contract recommendations. Ensure that economic, environmental and ethical risks are assessed and appropriately mitigated/managed across the supply chain and throughout the tendering and contract lifecycle.
Qualifications
Essential skills, experience and competence required
- Comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation in the procurement process, coupled with an in-depth
- Understanding and experience of delivering tenders compliant with the current Public Contracts Regulations
- Commercially focussed with a proven track record of delivering value and process efficiency
- Proven ability to negotiate effectively and resolve disputes efficiently throughout the contract lifecycle
- Ability to analyse complex data sets and develop Supply Chain Strategies that mitigate risk and deliver value over the long term
- Ability to engage and influence a broad range of internal and external stakeholders up to Director level and aility to utilise a variety of communication styles and tools in order to deliver a desired outcome
- Working towards MCIPS qualified or relevant bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Supply Chain
- Advanced understanding and application of the use of the Microsoft Office suite
